Do You think history tells the whole story?

At the end of the novel the commissioner decided that he wants to write a book. But, he gives Okonkwo only one paragraph to tell his story. Which makes you think about if the history books we read today are also a short summary of what happened. As society has a bias towards only looking at what we read or are told is true. As one of the reasons the author wrote this book was to try and dig out a more unbiased opinion of the situation in Nigeria. While also, trying to change and enhance the way we perceive information and how we need to cognitively analyze both parts of an argument. As it gives the commissioner a power within the story. As the book gives him a sense of higher knowledge of the situation at hand. Which makes him seem victorious and therefore we only see the perspective of the victor. So is history only told in the opinion of the winning side?

  1. I agree with how history is written by the victor as most history books are written by more successful people and their own perspectives. It can be complicated to get the story from the other perspectives as in many cases, they're not around anymore and no one else is their to tell their stories.

  2. I'm not sure so much if it's about the "winning" side but I do agree with the fact that history is very one sided. We only see one perspective, which begs the question; how do others see it? It's interesting when you look at books that are written by a multitude of authors. I forget the name, but there is a book series where each book is written by a different author. It actually works very well, and we see the different perspectives while keeping the same characters. Is this something we should adopt with our textbooks?

  3. I think history is told by the victors. As such, the author asks us to analyze the nature in which we are unable to recognize the bias.

  5. I believe history tells the whole story it just has its different point of views. Everyone is biased in their own way so history does tell the whole story.

  6. Really? You think we know everything that goes on? I think we are only told bits and parts and only told what we want to hear or what our government thinks we should hear

  7. Just think of this, if the nazis would've won WW2, then the holocaust wouldn't have been a major event in history. So I agree that the winners of wars, and battles can and in fact rewrite history.
